The cornerstone of a classic Hymn is its words. They weave together a tapestry of ingredients, which may include magnifying the triune God or bursting forth with praise and all this needs to be neatly encased in a sound theological tradition. The words need to be in poetical form, which in turn can challenge the intellectual abilities of the greatest scholars yet still be able to permeate the hearts and minds of small children. The Hymn-poem now requires the skilled hand of the composer bringing musical life to the piece, establishing various dynamics that will communicate the words of the Hymn at an even deeper level and engrave them firmly in our lives. The Hymn Writers through the centuries have built these towering monuments of worship that are now the very foundation of our Church heritage. They are sung in services around the world and even infiltrate global events. This series celebrates 'The Hymn Writers' with all new recordings featuring The Scottish Festival Singers conducted by Ian McCrorie and includes a booklet with Hymn Writer Biography and full lyrics.
